Last Best Rodeos Are in Montana

Experience a defining part of Montana culture through the official state sport: American rodeo. There are 35 PRCA-sanctioned weekend rodeos held in Montana each summer, so be sure to add one to your summer itinerary:

Augusta American Legion Rodeo (Augusta, MT): One of Montana's oldest and largest one-day rodeos, Augusta American Legion Rodeo will be held on June 28. It is a renowned PRCA-sanctioned event featuring traditional events like bull riding, barrel racing and calf roping. While the rodeo is the main event on Sunday, festivities start on Friday and include the Wapiti Fun Run, live music and a community parade.

Miles City Bucking Horse Sale (Miles City, MT): Known as “The Cowboy Capital” of Montana, Miles City is the site of the historic World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale, held annually on the third weekend of May and celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Part rodeo, part “Cowboy Mardi Gras” and part actual bucking horse sale, this event features a trade show, Indian relay horse racing and more.

Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede (Wolf Point, MT): Montana’s oldest rodeo, also known as the “granddaddy of Montana rodeo,” is celebrating its 103rd year on July 10-12. This rodeo is best known for its historic Wild Horse Race, powwows, nightly performances, parades and dances celebrating the area's deep Western roots.

Livingston Roundup (Livingston, MT): Running for just over 100 years, the Livingston Roundup is held on Fourth of July weekend each year. This rodeo features top-tier PRCA/WPRA cowboys and cowgirls, nightly fireworks and a huge Fourth of July celebration, attracting thousands of visitors to the region.

Dillon Rodeo (Dillon, MT): Every Labor Day weekend, Dillon transforms into the heart of Montana's rodeo scene with “Montana’s Biggest Weekend.” The festivities feature bull riding, barrel racing, roping and other classic rodeo events. The weekend also offers a concert, a carnival, local vendors and 4-H events.

White Sulphur Springs Labor Day Rodeo (White Sulphur Springs, MT): Held Sept. 6-7, the two-day PRCA rodeo features a street dance and a parade celebrating the region’s Western roots. The open-air rodeo has a backdrop of the Castle Mountains island range and is the last opportunity for many cowboys to qualify for the NFR.

Eureka Rodeo (Eureka, MT): Organized by the Tobacco Valley Rodeo Association and awarded NRA Platinum Rodeo of the Year and Best Ground of the Year in 2025, the Eureka Rodeo takes place July 24-25 this year. This volunteer-organized Montana rodeo event features professional bull riding, bronc riding and barrel racing. “The Bull Thing,” a follow-on event highlighting bull riding, will be held in August and will feature two nights of rodeo.
